A Mother's Village
Asking is a skill, not a weakness. A practical script for the moment you need someone and don’t know how to say it.

Most of us were not taught how to ask. We were taught how to cope, how to manage, and how to say we’re fine in a tone that ends the conversation. Then we become mothers, and coping quietly stops being enough.
Asking exposes two things at once: that you need something, and that you could not do it alone. If you grew up being praised for being capable, that combination can feel unbearable — even when the ask is as small as a lift to an appointment.
It helps to notice that the guilt is not evidence. It is a habit. The people around you are almost never keeping the score you imagine they are keeping.
The people who love you would rather be asked than find out afterwards that you were drowning.
Vague asks are hard to say yes to. Specific ones are easy. Try this shape:
That last line is the one that removes the guilt. You are not putting anyone on the spot; you are making an offer they can decline cleanly.
If asking is new, do not start with the hardest thing. Ask someone to hold the baby while you shower. Ask a neighbour to grab milk. Small asks build the muscle, and — this matters — they also give the other person a chance to be useful, which most people quietly want.
Sometimes it will be. A no is about their Thursday, not your worth. Ask someone else. In a village, the whole point is that there is more than one person to ask.
